Thurman legally obtained abortion pills in North Carolina to end the lives of her unborn twins. Five days later, after returning to her native Georgia, she experienced a serious complication: some of her babies’ remains were still in the uterus, and she was developing an infection.

The first debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris took place Tuesday night on ABC News with the two candidates facing off on numerous pressing issues, including abortion. Multiple times, misinformation was shared regarding the current state of abortion laws in the United States — including abortion in cases of medical emergencies and cases of infanticide. Aside from the usual false rhetoric about “Trump’s abortion bans” (which are both figments of the imagination and propaganda), here are four lies told regarding abortion during the debate:

As a pro-lifer I often get accused of only caring about the baby and having no concern for the mother.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.   

In 2023 there were 20,950 babies lost to abortion in New Mexico alone.  We are on track this year to increase that number to at least 25,800.

20,950 – 20,950 babies lost to abortion last year.  This number has been on my mind all weekend.  20,950 people that will never read a novel. 20,950 people that will never see a sunset or a sunrise.  20,950 people that will never fall in love, have their hearts broken and learn to love again.   

In New Mexico alone, abortions have increased by more than 400% . Prior to Roe v Wade being overturned, NM had about 4800+/- abortions per year. In 2023 that number jumped to 20,950.  The state is on track to exceed that number for 2024.
